[ SHOCKINGLY, papika is having difficulty going to sleep after the events of the trial. perhaps she had too much pizza and now has an upset stomach? maybe she is traumatized for life after the cannibal reveal? who knows.

either way, she's going to quietly leave her room. she's not entirely sure what she's looking for, but she still ends up poking her head into every one of the hotel's common rooms until she reaches the lounge. spotting percy inside, she realizes that it wasn't a what, but a who.

somewhat shyly, papika walks over to where he's sitting. ]

Most places around here would be a really bad place to die. [But that's just because dying's bad...] Does that really change anything I said?

...well. I think we all appreciate that. It's getting less and less fun finding people...not that it was fun to begin with, but you know what I mean. With as few of us that're left maybe it won't even be an issue now.

[ papika has a dream and it's for these fuckers to learn the art of not dismembering everyone. ]

I'd say "don't say probably" but who am I kidding. This town's so messed up we don't even know what's next. [He doesn't like it but you know, sometimes you've gotta face the facts.] At least we know it won't be you and it won't be me or Damian or Mr. Barnham or Milla or Noctis or Jason. I'm going to make sure of that.

I'd prefer if it wasn't any of us at all...

[ but they've been here long enough (it really hasn't been that long though, when she stops to think about it) to know that won't happen. ]

...I'd definitely prefer that, too. Trust me. [But there's a long stretch of silence. Instead he's just staring straight ahead before a hand rests on the top of her head.] And don't say stuff like that. It's been a team effort, you know? None of us would have survived this long without each other.

But I'm talking to you right now.

[The hand on her head pushes a little, but there's a short grin anyway.]

You can't turn this around on me, you know. It's always been this way, Papika. I'm only as good as the friends I have. It's why I'm making sure everybody gets out. And...if it's really a game of last man standing now, and that man's me, I'll make sure everyone gets the best outcome because it's what they deserve.

I think that's what everyone who's left wants.

[ except for ash, probably, but papika manages to be polite enough to not say that out loud. ]

If it comes to only one person left, I probably won't make it, but... if I did, I'd want everyone to get a happy ending.

I hope so. [Just in case this somehow isn't him. But there's a deep breath and he nods along.]

A happy ending. We'll make sure of it. Everybody getting to go back wherever they want and be able to talk to everyone. It's a little too perfect but that doesn't mean we can't try. Hal has to give in at some point. [Fucking robot-man.] But it could be you. Don't give up just yet.

What do you think is going to happen to Hal when this is over?

[ papika does not really care in sympathetic level, as she hates hal, but she is curious given how much time they have spent with the guy. ]

Maybe he'll just shut down. With his purpose being done there's not much left for him to do after we all leave is there?

[ her eyebrows furrow together at that. she does not like the robot, but something about that definitely seems to trouble her. ]

I guess there isn't. Unless his bosses have other work.

From what I've heard, the reason his bosses even brought us here is because they got bored playing this game themselves. If they're still bored, they're going to run the game again. Maybe he just goes on a long break between games. He told us a long time ago that the theme changes, right? Maybe the next time will be something really different and he'll have to prepare.

I hope the next theme is him and his bosses getting punched in the face.

[ it bugs her that they can't do anything to stop the entire system. other people going through this hell is awful, but... well, considering what things have been like in their own game. ]

As much as I wouldn't mind the idea of elder gods getting punched in the face for causing all of this, there has to be another route. Whoever wins is going to be in a good position. Hey can bargain with them for something better...I hope.

[It worked for him after the Titan war, so why not?]
