[ SHOCKINGLY, papika is having difficulty going to sleep after the events of the trial. perhaps she had too much pizza and now has an upset stomach? maybe she is traumatized for life after the cannibal reveal? who knows.

either way, she's going to quietly leave her room. she's not entirely sure what she's looking for, but she still ends up poking her head into every one of the hotel's common rooms until she reaches the lounge. spotting percy inside, she realizes that it wasn't a what, but a who.

somewhat shyly, papika walks over to where he's sitting. ]

She found out that I used to have another partner... I guess she thinks I was just using her as a replacement.

[ there's a brief look of disbelief on papika's face like she's having trouble wrapping her head around that concept. ]

Mimi is a good friend of mine, but Cocona's... different. She's super, duper important! But, um, I woke up on the train before I could explain that to her.

[...this sounds familiar. This sounds like:]

...I don't know, sometimes girls are weird. [Percy, Papika is a girl in case you forgot.] I have a friend, name's Rachel. We've known each other for a couple of years and sometimes Annabeth would get really mad at me for talking to Rachel, too. She stopped after we started dating and got that Rachel wouldn't replace her though. [It just took him a while to figure it out.]

When we get out of here, you'll be able to explain everything to Cocona. Are you going to tell her about this place?

[ exactly how do you explain to someone you were thrust into the wild wild west version of the hunger games?? ]

She never liked it when I got hurt, she almost stopped going on adventures with me because of it. [ ... ] Maybe? It might depend on how she takes the other stuff I have to tell her first.

[That's fair enough. He can respect that even if he's aware he could easily explain this to his friends and they'd probably just nod along and accept it and be not at all surprised he lived this long. So he's quiet for a moment.]

You have time to figure everything out. Maybe write her a letter while you're here so you know exactly what to tell her when you see her again. Some people have been doing that around here. [Another pause.] Natalie wrote a letter to a bunch of us before she died. It's not a bad idea.

[...wait though.] I don't get it though, why would she stop going on adventures with you just because you got hurt? Wouldn't that be more reason to stick together?

[ the natalie mention makes her frown. papika still isn't over what happened to her since... you know. that was A Lot.

at his question though, the frown just deepens. papika has tried to explain this to several others before, and none of them has really got it. she wonders if she should just approach the topic from a different angle. ]

The fragments we were collecting... they're in another world, and only certain people can go to it. I can only go there if I'm with Cocona, so if she decides to stop, then for her, we wouldn't be doing dangerous stuff anymore. [ a pause. ] She didn't want to do it at all at first. The first few times we visited it was on accident so she didn't have a choice.

[...wait.]

So...you're a worldhopper. That explains a couple of things. [Okay. He can deal with that.] Are there other people besides you two that could be collecting the fragments for you instead?

[ she shakes her head. ]

There aren't a lot of people who can go there, and the other people want them for stupid reasons. And, um... something bad happened to Mimi, and I couldn't do anything about it back then. So I want to be the one to find all of them so I can make up for it.

[ she hopes percy can understand that need. ] Cocona says she likes doing it now, but she said that before she got mad at me, so...

[He's just slowly pulling her further into his side because why is this suddenly coming out, why can't his last pure child have a normal life, what the fuck.]

Sometimes people say thinks when they're mad. It'll be fine once you explain everything to her...that's how you really know your friends care about you, you know? When they get really worried about stuff but follow you into danger anyway. That's how it works for us in my world.

[Stop.] So the wish would be to fix whatever happened to Mimi? Or something else?

[ because everyone in whole ass must suffer even when they aren't in whole ass. she will easily let him pull her in though since, again, papika will never deny a cuddle.

she almost asks him what kind of trouble follows him in his world, but figures she should... answer his question first. ]

Probably not. Mimi is... very special? She has a lot of powers. But collecting all of them should at least let us find her? And we can go from there.

[There's a slow nod.]

That makes sense to me. How many fragments are missing though?

No idea!

But Salt knows. He's the one in charge of our group.

And you trust this Salt guy to get you where you need to go? Will you see him again when you go home, too?

He can be super suspicious! [ she doesn't sound too bothered by it though. ] I trust him though, especially when it's about Mimi.

... when we go back, will it be over a month later?

As long as you trust him...[But that's a good question.]. I don't know though. I think we'll all get to go back to right where we came from. We're just going to have all of our new memories. Means we'll be stronger though.

I hope we can still talk to each other after.

[ look. if these guys can steal people from different worlds, they gotta have an interdimensional postal system ]

I'm sure whoever wins the game can ask Hal. Maybe we can figure something out together. There are forty people in this town still...even if they aren't exactly in the same place. Annabeth and I have sent letters to people in weird ways, too.

If we can, then you definitely need to send me letters or else I'm going to beat you up.

[ friendship is threatening violence on each other <3 ]

[He actually laughs at that.]

Well you definitely convinced me. [He would have regardless.] We'll find a way to figure it out. You have to write to me too then, okay? Tell me all about what Cocona says when she forgives you.

I will! And you'll have to tell me about your adventures too, okay?

[ she won't understand any of it because percy's life is weird but that's besides the point ]

When I get the time to write, I'll tell you all about how we kicked Gaea's butt and saved the world. Count on it. [He nods again.]

[ she knows why she should be thanking percy, but not the other way around. ]

Being you. Being my friend, mostly. [Gross.] I don't think people realize how valuable something like that is.

[ that actually makes her tear up, and she'll hug him a little more tightly. ]

[A good pure? Papika is a good pure and he allows this, hand coming up to tangle the ends of her hair a little and keep her close.]

Tomorrow's going to be better, okay? We'll figure out what to do for the rest of this week and go from there.

[ her lips curl downwards for a second, but then the smile's back. ]
